For those who are visiting Sicily for the first time. Sicily is a very large island. Indeed, the largest in the Mediterranean. From Portopalo di Capo Passero in the southeast to San Vito lo Capo in the northwest it stretches almost 400 km. On the other hand, Sicily and the Italian mainland are separated by only 3 km of sea, and Tunisia is only 160 km away. Sicily divides the eastern and western Mediterranean, and serves as a stepping stone to and from Africa. In its long and varied history, Sicily has almost never been independent, but has mostly been subject to rulers who exploited the island and much of its population. There are a long list of conquerors who often decided to stay on Sicily. This explains much of why, whilst being a large island, it is also an interesting, varied and contrasting one. Everything seems more intense here: the heat, the colours, the light, the wind and the flavours. Sicily has everything and more to offer that also makes Italy so special: sea, culture, history, beautiful architecture and excellent cuisine. Sicily is virtually a concentrated version of Italy. To avoid travelling long distances thus get the best out of your holiday, we recommend not trying to cover too many of the multitude of sights, instead concentrating your time on one region in a relaxed manner.
We consider the northwest and the southeast to be the two most beautiful destinations in Sicily. They are also both suitable areas for spending a longer holiday. For this reason, we only offer holiday homes in these two regions in Sicily. Logistically, our holiday homes are located about 85 km from Catania airport to the southeast, and about 60 km from Palermo airport in the northwest. Both cities also have ferry ports, international airports, and also smaller airports: Comiso in the south and Trapani on the west coast. Greek cultural highlights can also be found in both parts of the island. The temples of Segesta to the west, or the Greek theatre in Siracusa to the south. Both are located but a half an hour away from our holiday homes. The provincial capitals of Trapani and Siracusa are real gems of the Mediterranean and a must-visit during your holiday. Not to miss highlights are also the two stunning nature reserves: the Vendicari near Noto and Lo Zingaro near Scopello. Our holiday homes are located in the immediate vicinity of the most beautiful and natural beaches and bays in Sicily.
