Culinaria: Passione & Amore - The Etna’s best wines

On the hillsides of Europe’s largest active volcano – between heaven and the sea stretching from 400 to 1,100m above sea level – grow indigenous grape varieties

such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nerrello Mantellato. The vines, some over 200 years old, are cultivated in the traditional “ad Albarello” way on

mineral-rich volcanic soil and are exposed to major temperature fluctuations. Etna wine-growers are as full of character as their rich wines and rise to the challenge

of the extreme conditions of this unique region. By combining tradition with modern technology, they achieve results that are today renowned worldwide.

Etna wines greatly differ from other Sicilian wines, reflecting the distinct condition of the Etna region and are reminiscent of major Burgundy wines in their elegance

and complexity.
